21st Century Man - Live @ Catmel Studios (Video)

Semi-autobiographical
“I remember painting my mother's toenails with red nail varnish while she was talking about the end of the world."
Development of '21st Century Man' through various incarnations; the original demo, acoustic, duo rehearsal in my Barcelona flat and a live radio performance on Radio Reverb - Brighton.

Now I bring it to you in a minimalist style, not unlike that of the great Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah.

I really loved the original lead guitar intro to this song but unfortunately, it took the song to over 5 minutes. I think I would still play it live. I have an acoustic recording with two guitars playing together that I made of a rehearsal in Barcelona with Albert Greenlight. I really like that recording because it’s so raw… recorded with an iPhone.

Ramon whistling my intro solo after leaving the studio to get the train home.

We had just finished recording 21st Century Man at Ramon's studio. On the way out we were walking to our cars and I heard Ramon whistling. It took a few seconds to settle in... He was whistling the guitar intro! It was a surreal moment for me, magic, real magic. Something that didn't exist until a few hours ago had found its 1st entity to possess... It was spooky and cosmic at the same time. It was my proudest breakthrough moment.

Behind The Studio Walls

It's really important to create your own sound. This is a part of the process I really love the most! Playing with special effects, amps & different sounding guitars. I usually find the nearest preset to the sound I have in mind, then start tweaking until it's unique-sounding enough to my ears. Effects are usually more subtle when you play finger styles.

Today I'm using this Ibanez. It's a great looking guitar and very easy to play. For a heavier song I prefer a Gibson, but they're really heavy to wear onstage all night so I'm looking for alternatives.

Vlog #5 - Jamming: what will happen next?

This was one of my 1st exploits of making a Vlog while on the move and not just in the office or studio. On my way to a blues & Jazz jam session with (Lucio, Ricardo & Antonio) not really knowing what to expect... there was a workshop/demonstration, a concert then the jam. See how I got on stage, jammed the blues & did one of my original songs too!!

Week 267: Live Performance of Flying Free at Barcelona 3D Film-Misic Festival

After visiting Barcelona to celebrate my birthday week and escape from the UK winter, I was invited to perform at a 3D film festival hosted by Edgar Gonzalez and now in its 4th year. The event was held at the former Estrella Damm Brewery.
A cool venue downstairs for gigs and a reception area upstairs for launches & corporate entertaining. I was amazed at the quality of cinematography of some of the short films. Although there was no formal stage area or plug-in area, we improvised a song in one of the brewery vats that had been converted to a seating and museum piece.
Well... you've got to prepared to improvise sometimes ;)

Week 248: Recording Guitars In Ifield, West Sussex

Vlog #2

Hi Guys!
Summer is finally here in England and I'm starting to chill out and get into the recording process. Acoustic & Electric Guitars. It has been a turbulent 2 months and now I'm finally relaxed enough to enjoy being more creative in the studio.

I hope you are enjoying a relaxing summer and look forward to traveling from September.
